Dear Researchers,

Welcome to the Archive page of the Pontifical Institute of Santa Maria dell’Anima!

Our archive and reading room at the Anima are open to researchers on Wednesdays and Fridays from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM, and occasionally on other weekdays for the whole day by appointment. Use of the reading room and access to documents is only possible after registration and confirmation by the archivists.

We do not charge a usage fee. However, researchers wishing to consult archival materials dated before 1850 are asked to bring their own work gloves to help preserve the documents. There is no book scanner or copier in the archive, but photographing or self-scanning of documents is permitted. Please understand that we do not accept requests for copies or scans.

We are a private archive and reserve the right to deny access if there is no specific research interest related to the history of our institution, or for reasons of capacity or other considerations.

For data protection reasons and in accordance with international archival law, personal documents of recent date are only partially accessible or completely restricted.

We kindly ask you to contact us before your planned visit with your specific research inquiry (topic, scientific or other interest in our holdings).

Our address is: Via di Santa Maria dell’Anima, 64 / Bell 51

Sincerely,
Dr. Andrea Pagano
